Introduction
After installing DLA (Direct Letter Access) successfully, one of the following scenarios occurs:
  • DLA does not start automatically and will not start.
  • DLA locks any time a CD, blank or otherwise, is inserted into the CD-Writer. Other operations work successfully utilizing the CD.
If DLA exhibits the kind of behavior listed in the bullets above, auto insert notification needs to be enabled on the CD-Writer. The "Steps to Resolving the Problem" section contain steps to review and turn on auto insert notification in Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.
Before Beginning
Ensure the CD-Writer connected and powered on before starting the computer.
Turning on Auto Insert Notification in Windows 95, 98 and Me
  1. Click Start , select Settings , then Control Panel .
  2. Double-click the System icon.
  3. Click the Device Manager tab.
  4. Double-click the CDROM listing.
  5. Double-click the CD-Writer installed. (See Table 1, Step 1 for an example.)
  6. Click the Settings tab.
  7. Place a check in the checkbox next to Auto insert notification . (See Table 1, Step 2.)
  8. Click the OK button.
  9. Click the Close button on the System Properties window.
  10. Click Yes when asked to restart the computer.
After the computer restarts, DLA should work successfully. If DLA does not work successfully, ensure auto insert notification has remained on using the steps above. If not, you may have a program running that prevents these types of changes.
