This document gives instructions on how to download, install, and uninstall the HP Precisionscan (LT, LTX, and Pro) software in Microsoft(R) Windows XP.
Install from the HP scanning software installation CD
In order to install the HP scanning software successfully on a computer with Windows XP, it is recommended to use an installation CD that has the correct files for Windows XP.
If your scanner did not come with Windows XP compatible HP scanning software, it may be obtained by downloading it from the HP Support Web site or by contacting HP and ordering a Windows XP compatible scanning software CD. Click “Contact HP” on this Web page for more support options.
Insert the HP scanning software installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The Installer should automatically start. If the Installer does not start, click Start
, then click Run
. In the Open box, type D:\setup.exe
(where D:\ is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
Follow the instructions on the computer screen to install the HP scanning software.
When the HP Scanjet scanning software is completely installed, shut down the computer.
Connect the interface cables between the computer and the scanner, and then attach the scanner power cord to an electrical outlet.
Restart the computer with the scanner power on. A New Hardware Found window will open during the restart and the computer will install the necessary drivers.
Locate the HP scanning software download page on this HP Support Web page.
Select Save this program to disk
or select Run this program from its current location
to download the complete HP Precisionscan (LT, LTX, or Pro) software. Instructions are listed below for either choice:
Save this program to disk
From the download page, click Download Now
. A File Download window will open.
Select Save this program to disk
. A Save as window will open.
In the Save In:
box, select a location in which to save the file. The file will automatically name itself. It is best to accept the default name.
NOTE: Many of the full HP Scanning software program downloads are very large and will take some time to download.
Extract and install the downloaded scanning software
To extract and install the software, browse to the downloaded file and double-click the *.exe that was downloaded. A Self-Extractor window will open.
Click Unzip
. The files are then extracted and the setup program is automatically started.
Follow the instructions on the screen to install the HP scanning software.
Run this program from its current location
From the download page, select Run
this program from its current location.
Click OK
. The self-extracting zip file will download to a temporary directory on the computer system. When the download is complete, the files will be automatically extracted and the installation program will start.
Follow the instructions on the screen to install the HP scanning software.
Disconnect the cables from the HP Scanjet scanner.
Click Start
, then click Control Panel
. The Control Panel will open.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs
, then highlight Precisionscan (LT, LTX, or Pro)
and click Change/Remove
.
Click Yes
to remove Precisionscan and all of its components.
Click Yes to All
on the shared files warning screen.
Click OK
to close the Control Panel window.
