ISSUE: Which is being used, Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) or HP Scanning software? WIA vs. HP Precisionscan software (including LT, LTX, or PRO).
SOLUTION: WIA provides imaging device support for Windows ME. It enables the ability to obtain pictures from cameras and scanners, and easily manipulate those pictures without additional software.
When installing any imaging device in Windows ME, Windows gives an option of using Windows Software for Imaging (WIA) or using the manufacturer's software. This usually occurs during the software install and again during the hardware install. Generally speaking, a selection will be given of "either/or", but not "both". If the scanning software is accessed through the Scanners and Cameras Icon, then WIA is being using. When accessing the HP Scanning Software, the top-line of the screen will display HP Precisionscan (LT, LTX, or PRO).
Support for WIA is through Microsoft (R). There are certain issues that can not be addressed by HP when WIA is selected. For example, HP can no longer offer support for the buttons and certain diagnostic tools which can indicate that service may be required if using WIA, since the Microsoft now controls these features.
Support for all HP Software including the Scanjet Copy Utility is through HP by Email or Telephone Support. Please confirm which software is being used. Microsoft will not support HP scanning software.
To change from using WIA to the HP scanning software: uninstall WIA in the Control Panel, Uninstall the HP scanning software and the scanner. When re-installing the HP software and scanner, a choice will be given of installing WIA or the manufacture's software. Select the manufacture’s software to install at this time and fallow the instruction given.
If the WIA software accesses the scanner through the Scanner and Cameras Icon, it will be necessary to change to the HP scanning software before requesting technical support or service from HP.
