Mac OS: 'Error:-9672' Displays on the Computer When Adding a Printer Using the Printer Setup Utility while Connected to an Apple AirPort Base Station by USB

Issue
An 'Error:-9672' message displays on the computer while adding a printer using the Printer Setup utility. The printer is connected to an AirPort Base Station through a universal serial bus (USB) connection.

NOTE: Only the printing function is available when using the product on a USB port of the AirPort Base Station. Scanning is not possible.
Solution
Perform the following steps to uninstall the existing software and then download and install the newer, updated version of the software.
Step one: Uninstall the software and drivers
  1. Disconnect the product from the computer.
  2. Double-click the Applications: Hewlett-Packard folder.
  3. Double-click HP Uninstaller .
  4. Follow the instructions that display on the screen.
  5. After the software is uninstalled, open Activity Monitor . It is located in Macintosh HD\Applications\Utilities .
  6. Select All Processes from the drop-down menu in the upper right corner.
  7. Quit the following processes by selecting them and then pressing the Quit Process button (will vary by printer):
    • Hpusbmond
    • Hpdot4d
    • HP AiO Notifications
    • HP Event Handler
    • HP IO classic Proxy
    • HP IO Classic Proxy 2
    • Pipedaemon
    • Print Daemon
    • HP Photosmart
  8. Empty the Trash .
    CAUTION: Verify that there is nothing in the Trash that should not be deleted.
  9. Restart the computer.
Step two: Download and install the universal software and drivers
  1. Right-click this link to download the software , and then click Open in New Window .
  2. Click Download only . If your browser opens a new dialog box, you might also need to click Save or Save File .
    The file downloads to your computer.

  3. Double-click the icon above the file name. The computer extracts the files and displays a disk image file icon above the product name.

  4. Double-click the disk image file.
  5. Double-click the HP Installer icon.
    The HP Installer program opens.
  6. When prompted, select your HP product, and then click OK .
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
