Introduction
Follow the appropriate steps below to install the printer software and drivers on a computer running either Windows XP or Windows 2000.
Before installing the software
  • When installing on a Windows 2000 system, make sure that an administrative login is used to log onto the system.
  • For Windows XP, make a System Restore Point prior to and after software installation:
    1. Click Start .
    2. Click All Programs .
    3. Click Accessories .
    4. Click System Tools .
    5. Click System Restore to access this tool.
  • Close any programs that launch at startup, such as faxing and antivirus software. Failure to disable active antivirus software may result in a corrupt or incomplete installation. Antivirus software usually places an icon next to the time; right-click this icon to bring up a menu that may allow the antivirus software to be shut down or disabled.
  • Check with the computer manufacturer for any required BIOS or system updates.
Installing the software in Windows XP
  1. Complete the hardware setup for your HP Digital Copier Printer 610. Plug in the power cord and turn on the power.
  2. Insert the software CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
  3. Using the USB cable that came with your copier, connect your copier to your computer. The Found New Hardware Wizard will appear.
  4. Select Install the software automatically and click Next . Windows will search for the driver. This may take five minutes or more.
  5. Windows will locate the driver and begin install the software automatically. When the installation is complete, a Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard message will display.
  6. Click Finish . A balloon in the system tray informs you that the copier is ready to use. A printer icon will also appear in the Printer folder (accessed by clicking Start , then Printers and Faxes .)
Installing the software in Windows 2000
  1. Complete the hardware setup for your HP Digital Copier Printer 610. Plug in the power cord and turn on the power.
  2. Insert the software CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
  3. Using the USB cable that came with your copier, connect the copier to the computer. The computer detects the new hardware and searches for drivers. After a few minutes the Found New Hardware Wizard will appear.
  4. Click Next .
  5. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device and click Next . It is normal for the device to show as Unknown .
  6. Select CD-ROM drive (this should be the only box selected) and click Next . Windows will search until it locates the driver on the CD.
  7. Click Next . A Digital Signature Not Found window will appear.
  8. Click Yes to continue the installation. When the installation is complete, a Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard message will display.
  9. Click Finish . The system will copy some additional files and the printer icon will appear in the system tray. A printer icon will also appear in the Printer folder (accessed by clicking Start , then Settings .)
