Unable to Shut Off the Computer Due to an Error in "hpcmpmgr.exe"

Issue
When attempting to shut down the computer, a Microsoft error report dialog box may display. Upon submitting this error to Microsoft, it may be identified by Microsoft that this situation is caused by Hewlett-Packard's hpcmpmgr.exe file.
Information
The hpcmpmgr.exe program is installed on most computers to support HP products, such as the HP Photosmart, Deskjet, and All-in-One printers. The error message is generated when the program becomes corrupt or conflicts with other system components. In order to resolve this issue, follow the steps below to install an updated version of hpcmpmgr.exe that will resolve this error.
Downloading and installing the update
  1. Click the following link to begin downloading the update: HP hpcmpmgr.exe Update (in English).
  2. When the File Download window appears, click Open to start installing the update.
  3. The Install Shield Wizard will appear and display information about the update. When the update has been successfully installed, a Thank you. You have successfully downloaded and installed the fix. Please restart your computer message will appear. Close all programs and click OK to restart the computer.
    NOTE: In the event of an unsuccessful installation of the hpcmpmgr.exe update, the following message will appear: Recommended update to resolve hpcmpmgr.exe and hpdarc.exe errors. There was an error while running the fix. Please try again . If the product software is uninstalled and reinstalled at a future date, the patch will need to be installed again. HP Software Update will automatically offer the update for future downloading.
Installing the update on Microsoft Windows XP SP2
  1. Click the following link to begin downloading the update: HP hpcmpmgr.exe Update (in English).
  2. After the Security Warning screen appears, click the Run button to begin the installation.
  3. After the subsequent Security Warning screen appears, click Run to begin the installation. There will be no more security warnings from the system during the installation.
  4. Restart the computer when the installation is complete.
