'An Unexpected Internal Error Has Occurred' When Scanning from HP Director

Issue
An Unexpected Internal Error message displays after clicking Scan picture or image in the HP Director software.
Solution
Solution one: Execute (double-click) the hpqdstcp.exe file
  1. Right-click Start , and then click Explore . The Windows Explorer window opens.
  2. Click C: , Program files , HP , Digital imaging , and then bin .
    Or, click C: , Program files , Hewlett-Packard , Digital imaging , and then bin .
  3. Locate and then double-click hpqdstcp.exe . You will not see the file launch or install.
  4. Retry the scan from HP Director.
Solution two: Uninstall HP Image Zone software and the HP Photo & Imaging software
NOTE: Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) and power cables from the back of the scanner.
  1. Click Start , Settings , and then Control Panel .
    On some computers, click Start and then Control Panel .
  2. Click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. One at a time, select all the HP Image Zone and Photo & Imaging software entries, and click Remove.
  4. Restart the computer if prompted to do so.
    NOTE: If uninstalling an HP Scanjet 4070 scanner with Image Zone 4.0 or 4.1, you must run the patch Update for problems with reinstallation of the HP Image Zone software (COL9278.exe) to reinstall Image Zone. Click here to download the patch.
Solution three: Reinstall the scanner
  1. Install the scanner software by following the instructions included with the documentation that came with the product.
  2. Restart the computer if prompted to do so. Leave the software CD in the CD-ROM drive of the computer.
  3. After the computer restarts, plug the scanner power cable into the back of the scanner.
  4. Attach the USB cable to the back of the scanner.
  5. A New Hardware Found message should display.
  6. Finish installing the scanner.
    NOTE: If this is a pre-loaded HP computer system with HP Image Zone 4.2.3, HP Memories Disc must be uninstalled prior to installing HP Image Zone 4.2.3 or an error message stating that "a previous version of Memories Disc software was found on your system" will display.
