A Computer Using Windows XP or 2000 Stalls with 96% of the Software Installation Complete and 'HPQDSTCP' is Running in the Task Manager

Issue
While installing the product software on a computer using Windows XP or 2000, the computer locks up (stalls) with 96 percent of the software installation complete and with the process HPQDSTCP running in the Processes tab of the Task Manager.
This document applies to the following HP All-in-One product series:
  • HP Officejet 4200, 5500, 5600, 6200, 6300, 7200, 7300, and 7400 series
  • HP PSC 1110, 1200, 1300, 1350, 1400, 1500, 1600, 2175, 2300, 2350, 2400, and 2500 series
  • HP Photosmart All-in-One 2570, 2600, 2700, 3110, 3210, and 3310 series
Solution
Follow the instructions below to remove any links to My Computer, My Network Places, My Documents, or the 3.5 inch floppy drive from the Start Menu.
  1. Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the computer screen and then left-click Explore . Windows Explorer opens to the Start menu.
  2. In the right side of the Explorer window, check for any references to the following:
    • My Computer
    • My Documents
    • My Network Places
    • 3 ½ Floppy
  3. Delete any of the items listed above from the Start menu by right-clicking the item in the right side of the Explorer window and then clicking Delete in the menu that displays.
    NOTE: Make sure to delete only the short cuts from the Start menu.
  4. A dialog box displays asking if you want to delete that item (send it to the Recycle Bin). Click Yes .
  5. Try scanning from the HP software. The issue should be resolved.
  6. If the problem still occurs, check the rest of the Start menu and its subfolders for any of the items listed above and delete them.
