Introduction
Use the following instructions to set up the camera for the first time.
Setting up a new camera
Step one: Unpack the camera
Open the product container and remove all packing materials from the camera.
Step two: Check the contents of the box
The contents might vary by country/region. Refer to the packaging for the actual contents.
Step three: Install the battery
  1. Open the Battery/Memory Card door by sliding the door latch.
  2. Insert the battery in the larger slot, pushing the battery in until the latch catches.
  3. Close the Battery/Memory Card door.
    To remove the battery, move the battery latch until the battery springs free.
    NOTE: Fully charge the battery before using it for the first time.

Step four: Charge the battery
To charge the battery in the camera, follow the steps below:
  1. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the camera and the large end into the power adapter, then plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
    The camera's blinking Battery Charging light indicates that the battery is charging. The battery is fully charged when the Battery Charging light turns on solid.
  2. When charging is complete, disconnect the camera from the power adapter.

Step five: Turn on power
To turn on the camera, press the ON/OFF button ( ).
Step six: Select the language and region
  1. Using your finger or the stylus, select the language.
  2. Touch Next on the language confirmation screen to confirm the choice and display the Region screen ( ).
    To change the language later, use the Camera Setup Menu ( ).

    Along with the language setting, the region setting determines the default date format.
  3. Touch the region you want.
  4. Touch Next on the region confirmation screen to confirm the choice and display the Date screen ( ).

Step seven: Select the date and time
NOTE: Accurately setting the date and time will help locate images once transferred to the computer, and will ensure that images are accurately marked if you use the date and time imprint feature.
  1. Touch the up arrow ( ) or down arrow ( ) to adjust the month, date, and year.
  2. Touch Next to confirm settings and display the Time screen ( ).
  3. Touch the up arrow ( ) or down arrow ( ) to adjust the time.
  4. When all settings are correct, touch Done .
    To change the date and time later, use the Camera Setup Menu.

Step eight: Insert the memory card (optional )
This camera supports standard, high speed, and high capacity Secure Digital (SD and SDHC) memory cards, 32MB to 8GB.
  1. Turn off the camera and open the Battery/Memory Card door.
  2. Insert the optional memory card in the smaller slot as shown. Make sure the memory card snaps into place.
  3. Close the Battery/Memory Card door and turn on the camera.
    NOTE: When the camera is turned on with a memory card installed, the camera indicates the number of picture and video images that can be stored on the memory card at the current Image Quality setting ( ). This camera can store a maximum of 4000 picture and video images on a memory card.Once a memory card is installed, all new images and video clips are stored on the card, rather than in internal memory. To use internal memory and view images, remove the memory card.

Step nine: Install the camera software
The HP Photosmart Software provides features for transferring images and video clips to the computer, as well as features for modifying stored images (remove red eyes, rotate, crop, resize, adjust image quality, and more).
Insert the HP Photosmart Software CD into the CD drive and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
