Blinking Lights

Introduction

Lights blinking, or flashing, on the printer can signal a possible issue with the printer. This document lists steps to correct any issues shown by the flashing lights. Find the pattern of flashing lights that matches the lights flashing on your printer, and then follow the directions.

NOTE:Flashing lights can be caused by multiple issues, so there might be multiple solutions listed in each section.

Issue Printer is waiting for special media to dry.
Solution The printer begins printing again when the ink on the media has dried. Press the Resume button if you do not want to wait. You can also change the dry time in the printer driver.
Issue Printer is out of paper.
Solution Load paper and press the Resume button to continue the print job.
Issue There is a media/banner size mismatch.
Solution Make sure the media/banner size selected in the printer driver matches the media/banner size loaded in the printer. To eject the media/banner, press the Resume button.
Issue There is a stall in the Input/Output system.
Solution Make sure the system is running properly and the printer is properly connected to your system. Turn off the printer, turn it on again, and then resend the print job.

Issue There is a paper motor stall in the printer.
Solution one Clear the paper jam. After clearing the jam, press the Resume button to continue the print job. Solution two If no paper jam exists, press the Resume button. If this does not work, turn off the printer, turn it on again, and then resend the print job.

Issue There is a carriage stall in the printer.
Solution one Clear the paper jam. After clearing the jam, press the Resume button to continue the print job. Solution two If no paper jam exists, press the Resume button. If this does not work, turn off the printer, turn it on again, and then resend the print job.

Issue There is a stall in the service station of the printer.
Solution Open the top cover and unplug the power cord. Wait for the resume and power lights to go off. Close the top cover and plug in the power cord. Wait for the printer to reinitialize, and resend the print job.

Issue There is a hardware issue with the printer.
Solution one Make sure there is no paper jam in the printer. Solution two If you cannot resume the print job, cancel the print job. Turn off the printer, turn it back on, and then try to print again. If the problem persists, turn off the printer and disconnect the cable from the printer. Reconnect the cable, turn on the printer, and then try to print again.

Issue The top cover is open.
Solution Close the top cover.
Issue The rear access panel or duplex unit is not correctly installed.
Solution Make sure the rear access panel or duplex unit is correctly installed and locked into place.

Issue The tri-color print cartridge is low on ink or out of ink.
Solution Reinstall or replace the print cartridge. NOTE:You can still print with one print cartridge.

Issue The Photo or black print cartridge is low on ink or out of ink.
Solution Reinstall or replace the print cartridge. NOTE:You can still print with one print cartridge.

Issue The left (tri-color) and right (photo or black) print cartridges are both low on ink or out of ink.
Solution Reinstall or replace both the print cartridges.

Issue The Tri-color print cartridge is damaged or missing.
Solution Reinstall the print cartridge. If the error persists, replace the print cartridge. NOTE:You can still print with one print cartridge.

Issue The left (tri-color) and right (photo or black) print cartridges are both damaged or missing.
Solution Reinstall the print cartridges. If the error persists, replace the print cartridge. NOTE:If printing with a single print cartridge, ignore this light.
