Resolving 'Internal Error 2343'

Symptom
An "Internal Error 2343" message displays on the computer screen when installing or uninstalling the HP Photo & Imaging or Image Zone software.

Solution
Delete the installation values from the Windows registry.
Step 1: Create a backup copy of the registry
If you are unfamiliar with working in the registry, click here for instructions on backing up and restoring the registry (bph07102) .
Step 2: Remove the HP Photo and Imaging installation values from the Windows registry
Microsoft® Windows 2000 and XP
  1. Click Start , and then click Run . The Run window will open.
  2. In the Open box, type REGEDIT and then click OK . The Registry Editor window will open.
  3. Click the plus (+) next to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT .
  4. Click the plus (+) next to Installer .
  5. Click the plus (+) next to Products .
  6. Click the first key under Products to highlight it (see Figure 2).

  7. On the right side of the screen, locate the ProductName line (see Figure 3). If this is the product with the install/uninstall error, press the Del key on the keyboard to delete the highlighted key on the left side of the screen. If this is not the product with the error, click the second key under Products (on the left of the screen) and check the Product Name. Continue until the key for the proper product has been identified and deleted.

  8. If the error occurred during installation of the software, continue with step 3. If the error occurred during the uninstall process, skip to step 4.
Windows 98 and Me
  1. Click Start , and then click Run. The Run window will open.
  2. In the Open box, type REGEDIT and then click OK . The Registry Editor window will open.
  3. Click the plus (+) next to Hkey_current_user .
  4. Click the plus (+) next to software .
  5. Click the plus (+) next to Microsoft .
  6. Click the plus (+) next to installer .
  7. Click the first key under Products to highlight it
  8. On the right side of the screen, locate the ProductName line (see Figure 3). If this is the product with the install/uninstall error, press the Del key on the keyboard to delete the highlighted key on the left side of the screen. If this is not the product with the error, click the second key under Products (on the left of the screen) and check the Product Name. Continue until the key for the proper product has been identified and deleted.
  9. If the error occurred during installation of the HP Photo & Imaging software, continue with step 3. If the error occurred during the uninstall process, skip to step 4.
Step 3: Uninstall the software
  1. Close the Registry Editor and return to the Windows Desktop.
  2. Open the My Computer window.
    • In Windows XP, click Start and then double-click My Computer .
    • In Windows 2000, double-click the My Computer icon
  3. In the My Computer window, double-click [C:] . The contents of C: will open.
  4. Double-click the Program Files folder.
  5. Double-click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
  6. Right-click Digital Imaging , and then click Delete .
  7. Click Yes to confirm the file deletion.
    NOTA: Deleting the Digital Imaging folder will disable all devices using the HP Photo and Imaging Software. Only delete this folder if you do not have other HP products the use this program.
Step 4: Install the software
  1. Close all open windows.
  2. Insert the HP Photo & Imaging software installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of the HP Photo & Imaging software.
  4. After the software has been installed, restart the computer system.
Restoring a backup copy of the registry for Windows 98, Me, 2000 Pro, and XP
  1. Click Start , and then click Run . The Run window will open.
  2. In the Open box, type REGEDIT
  3. Click OK . The Registry Editor window will open.
  4. Click File , and then click Import Registry File . The Import Registry File window will open.
  5. In the Look in box, select Desktop .
  6. Click the Backup file.
  7. Click Open .
  8. The message “Information in C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\backup.reg has been successfully entered in the registry” will be displayed.
  9. Click OK . The message and the Import Registry File window will close.
  10. Close the RegistryEditor window.
The registry has been restored.
