Introduction
This document describes how to find the model number of your Deskjet printer. If your printer also has scanning, faxing, and copying functionality, click here to learn how to find the model number on an HP Deskjet All-in-One (c01105883).
There are several methods for finding the model number on your product. As described in this document, model numbers are commonly located on the body of the product.
A model number is a unique numeric or alphanumeric code used to identify a particular version of a product. For example, the same series of a product may have several different models with varying features.
If you are looking for the serial number instead of the model number, click here to find the serial number on your product (c01293354).

Use one of the following methods to identify the model number on your product.
Method one: Locate the model number on the product
Listed below are example model numbers that might look similar to the model number on your product:
  • HP Deskjet D4200 Printer
  • HP Deskjet 5940 Printer
  • HP Deskjet 310 Printer
Compare the following model number locations with your product.

Method two: Locate the model name on the product and the model number inside the cartridge door
Some products have a model name located on the front of the product (as in the photos above), and a specific model number located near the cartridges. The specific model number has five characters. For example:
  • A809a
  • A809c
  • A809n
